STORY

Sable Rosemont is an award-winning Australian poet, songwriter and performer.

Sable Rosemont writes about survival, coercive control, reinvention and the moment people choose themselves. Her work blends literary poetry with dark alternative music, exploring psychological landscapes through vivid imagery, liminal spaces and emotional truth.

In 2026, Sable was awarded the South Coast Writers Centre Poetry Award for A State of Trespass and received Highly Commended in the Calanthe Poetry Prize for I Married a Bird. Her work has also been accepted for publication in Australian literary journals, with new publications appearing in 2027.

I never set out to make music.

PRESS RELEASE

Brisbane, Australia | 12 July 2026

Award-winning Australian poet, performer and songwriter Sable Rosemont today releases Castrated Empathy, a dark alternative rock anthem blending industrial textures, cinematic production and unforgettable hooks with fearless, poetic lyricism.

Built around the unsettling refrain, "I cut it green and grey. I cut it all away. Castrated all my empathy, sold it on eBay,"the track explores the emotional desensitisation that can emerge through cycles of manipulation, coercive control and psychological survival. Rather than offering easy answers, Castrated Empathy inhabits the unsettling space where vulnerability is abandoned in favour of emotional armour.

Powerful, psychologically rich and deliberately open to interpretation, the song combines surreal imagery with razor-sharp metaphors to examine power, identity and the cost of self-protection. Lyrics such as "I overrode my safety switch"and "I dipped my heart in bitumen" paint a haunting portrait of empathy deliberately stripped away until only survival remains.

Castrated Empathy is the second chapter of HEMATITE, Sable Rosemont's forthcoming alternative rock project exploring resilience, identity and transformation through liminal spaces, domestic decay and dark, emotionally charged songwriting. Blending alternative rock, industrial influences and cinematic storytelling, HEMATITE examines the ways people fracture, adapt and ultimately remake themselves in the aftermath of trauma.
